Privacy Policy for Luminotes
Last Updated: January 2026
1. Introduction
Luminotes ("we," "our," or "the App") is committed to protecting your privacy. Our core philosophy is that your scouting data belongs to you. This policy explains how we handle your data to ensure transparency and security.
2. Data Ownership & Storage
Luminotes is built on a "local-first" architecture to ensure your information remains private.
- Photos: All "visual notes" you take are saved directly to your iOS Photo Library. The App does not host, store, or transmit your images to external servers.
- Metadata: Your notes, project groupings, and sun-tracking data are stored locally on your device. We do not have access to your personal scouting logs or location history.
3. Precise Location & Weather
When you take a "visual note," the App accesses your GPS coordinates and compass heading for:
- On-Device Mapping: Storing your location and heading locally to show your position, the direction you were facing, and the sun's path on the map.
- Weather Retrieval (Open-Meteo): Your coordinates are sent to Open-Meteo to fetch local weather conditions and forecasts. While Luminotes does not send personal identifiers with this request, Open-Meteo may collect non-personal information, such as IP addresses, for technical reasons (e.g., server maintenance or preventing misuse). They do not link this information to user identities. For more details, see the Open-Meteo Privacy Policy.
4. Privacy-First Efficiency (Caching)
To further protect your privacy and optimize battery life, Luminotes uses an intelligent caching mechanism:
- Weather requests are cached for 15 minutes and within a 100-meter radius.
- This ensures that taking multiple photos in the same spot or making minor movements does not trigger unnecessary data sharing or excessive GPS usage.
5. Diagnostics & Stability (Google Firebase)
We use Google Firebase Crashlytics to monitor app stability and fix bugs. If the app crashes, it sends a report to Google containing technical device information (e.g., device model, OS version). While we do not link these reports to your identity, Google’s SDK may collect certain device identifiers and IP addresses to provide the service. You can learn more via the Google Privacy Policy.
6. Data Retention & Deletion
